Since the scheme began in Queensland there have been over 1537 claims lodged and to date a total pay out of $14.5 mill. This article is designed to explain to members and your employees what to do (and why) and how to proceed when making a claim to CIPQ. You can't escape red tape, you might as well get the paper work right the first time.
Filling in the claim form
The claim form is broken up into three sections:
• Employee/worker to complete
• Doctor to complete
• Employer to complete
It is important that each of these areas are completed and returned together as incomplete forms will only delay the process of the claim.
• The last pay slip should also be included with the claim form.
How the claim is processed
Allow four to five weeks for initial processing of the claim. The length of time will vary from claim to claim.
The claim form is a means of gathering basic information. Windsor Management Insurance Brokers (who manage CIPQ claims) will then write to the appropriate doctors for additional information for which a fee is usually applicable. This fee is paid by the insurance company.
Every claim is different and, as a result, claim forms cannot possibly cater for every possible scenario - otherwise the form would be 20 pages long. Instead, this is handled by Windsor Management.
It is the policy of Windsor Management Insurance Brokers to keep the claimant informed on the progress of his/her claim by way of telephone calls and correspondence being sent out advising the current status of the claim and who they are waiting for a response from.
Once a claim has been processed and the initial payment has been sent further payments are paid fortnightly in arrears, so long as Windsor Management have a current certificate on file.
Windsor Management have set up an office in Brisbane dedicated to the handling of CIPQ claims. All claims together with payments are processed from this one office. It is situated at Level 6, 101 Wickham Terrace, Spring Hill.
One telephone call (to Brigid at Windsor Management Insurance Brokers) on (07) 3839 8322 will confirm exactly where the claim is at or what is holding up your claim.
It is important that the employer is continuing CIPQ payments at all times while the claimant remains in the employment of the company and while they continue the claim.
Since the introduction on 1 March 2001 CIPQ has been of invaluable financial assistance to those workers unfortunate enough to be sick or injured away from work - $14.5 mill has been paid out to them by the scheme, but it's necessary to make the distinction that the scheme has been set up as an "assistance package" for workers when they are in need and not as a "lifestyle change".
Conditions and exclusions apply.
