Q1: What if the worker makes a claim for a long term condition just shortly after commencement of current premium payments?

A:  The employer would be required to continue paying the premium installments while the worker remains an employee.


Q2: Does a worker have to wait twenty-one (21) days before lodging a claim?

A:  No, if it appears that the injury or illness will keep the worker away from work for more than twenty-one (21) days, a completed claim form should be sent in immediately for processing.


Q3: How long does it take for a claim to be processed?

A:  Once a claim has been accepted and the initial cheque has been sent out, further payments are made fortnightly in arrears.


Q4: How are payments made under the WorkCover Top-Up section?

A:  Upon receipt of a completed claim form, information is requested from WorkCover to confirm the claim, together with details of payments and when WorkCover payments reduce to under 85%, payments are made to a combined maximum of $830.00 per week.


Q5: How are Portable Sick Leave days calculated?

A:  Every weekly contribution equals to 1.85hrs per week (maximum ten (10) days per year). A maximum of five (5) days accrued prior to 1 March, 2001 can be saved under the Portable Sick Leave Scheme plus 1.85 hours per week per contribution after 1 March 2001.


Q6: How long are the days held on my behalf?

A:  Two (2) years from the last employer contribution.


Q7: How many days can be saved under the Portable Sick Leave Scheme?

A:  Maximum of one hundred (100) days or 10 days per year.


Q8: How long does a worker claim his sick days under the Portable Sick Leave Scheme?

A:  Once the worker has exhausted all accrued or entitled days with their current employer, and if they have days saved with CIPQ, a claim form should be completed and returned for processing together with a medical certificate.  This will take approximately 2 weeks to process.
