CIPQ provides the following benefits:

  • Portability of unused sick leave between contributing employers
  • Income protection - leisure time accident and illness cover
  • Workcover top-up

In addition to the terms and conditions of the insurance policies, there are certain provisions that must be met before benefits can be considered.

All Benefits except WorkCover Top-up claims are calculated by Windsor Management Insurance Brokers on behalf of the insurance company QBE Insurance (Australia) Limited.

Initial processing of claims is completed within 4 to 5 weeks from the date the claim is received and once completed, benefits are paid fortnightly in arears.  During the initial processing period, the worker will be kept informed of the current position of the claim.

Delays can be expected if the claim form is incomplete or documentation is missing.

Claim form needs to be completed and signed by the worker before a benefit can be considered.  Benefits are payable from the 22nd day for Leisure Accidents and illness claims while Top-Up benefits commence once WorkCover benefits reduce to 65% pre-disability income.

Leisure Time Income Protection

Benefits are payable in respect of any illness or injury that occurs during leisure time.

Example 1 - Blue Collar Worker
The weekly benefits for any employee is 85% of their actual pre-disability earnings as per the current EBA rates of pay at the time of the occurrence. Calculated at 85% of the EBA Hourly Rate plus Travel Allowance (where applicable) x 40 hours to a maximum of $830 per week.

Example 2 - White Collar Worker
The weekly benefits for any employee is 85% of their actual pre-disability earnings at the time of the occurrence and is the average of the actual declared earnings of an eligible worker over the previous twelve (12) months or lesser period if the eligible worker has worked for less than twelve (12) months to a maximum of $1300 per week.


WorkCover Top-Up

Covers the difference after deduction has been made between the compensation payable under WorkCover or similar legislation and the average gross earnings (as determined by WorkCover) to 85% or maximum of $830 per week (combined).


Portable Sick Leave

Unused sick days are calculated at a rate of 1.85 hours per week per paid contribution. A maximum of 10 days per year may be accumulated.
Days are payable at the normal rate of pay for a worker when on sick leave. They are payable after all sick days with their current employer, as set out in the award have been exhausted.
